I was s...I don't know why this never got a comment. I was searching for a Marxist analysis/critique/deconstruction of Arab nationalism and came onto this post. I've just finished reading Vali Nasr's <EM>The Shia Revival: How conflicts within Islam will shape the future</EM> and in passing he makes the argument that Arab nationalism is the "the Sunnification of Arab identity". He argues that the internationalist Communist parties in the Middle East were more representative of the Shia theology, whereas the Ba'athist and Arab nationalist parties (although started by Christians and containing some Shi'ite cadres, before purges) were essentially Sunni organisations.<BR/><BR/>This goes part of the way to understanding why there is no Shi'ite al-Qaeda.Johnhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01454610578041980961noreply@blogger.com
